CAMDEN, Sept. 5. – Special. – The adjournment meeting of the cotton acreage convention of August 22, was called to order by Chairman Thomson at noon today. Mr. L. W. Boykin was elected a delegate to represent Kershaw county at the cotton grower’s convention in Atlanta on October 7.

The following papers were read and received as information: a long list nearly a hundred names, of colored cotton producers who tried themselves to the limit of ten acres to the plow, and a resolution of Eureka Alliance, endorsed by the Wateree Alliance, that recommends the holing of cotton until eight cents is offered.

The following resolution, by Mr. W. F. Reid, was, after discussion, adopted:

“That the members in this convention try to get their neighbors not to plant more than ten acres to the plow, and that a committee of three from each school district be appointed to get all cotton planters to sign a written agreement to this effect, all subject to the action of the Atlanta convention.”

The following resolutions were also passed.

By M. Joel Hough – “That is is the sense of this meeting that all cotton producers in Kershaw County unite for the building of a warehouse in this county, for the deposit of cotton, and that the warehouse man be empowered to arrange with ocean steamers for the direct transportation of the cotton to Europe in bulk, and there by save the profits that now goes into the pockets of the middle-men.”

By L. W. Boykin – “That a committee of four (L. W. Boykin, Joel Hough, W. F. Russel and John A Rahn) be appointed to consult upon this cotton warehouse matter, see what money can be raised for that purpose and report this action to the cotton grower’s convention as a suggestion to all platers.”

By Mr. Gardner – “That our delegrate to Atlanta use his influence to have direct trade with Europe as far as cotton is concerned, and avoid the expensive middle-men.”

The convention adjourned to meet on October 17, at 12 pm., to hear Mr. Boykin’s report of the Atlanta convention.
