Camden, July 13 – Quietly as a tired child, she “fell asleep in Jesus” Mrs. Harriet Shannon Burnett, Sunday morning, July 12, after a lingering illness of many months. A woman of rare charm and culture, she adorned every sphere of life which she was called upon to occupy.
Mrs Burnett was born November 5, 1844, and was the eldest daughter of Col. and Mrs. William M. Shannon, deceased.
On December 22, 1864, she was married to Dr. A.W. Burnett of revered memory, whom she survived 14 years. For two terms she served with distinguished ability as president of the South Carolina division, U.D.C., and was well and widely known throughout the State. She is survived by three sons and five daughters and leaves many near relatives and a large circle of friends to mourn her loss.
