John Carson Horton was born on 22 May 1828 in Kershaw, South Carolina, USA.
Mr. John Horton died at his home near Shiloh church in the northern section of the county last Friday, August 8, 1913. He was 85 years of age and one of the most highly respected citizens of Kershaw county. He served his state gallantly for three years as a soldier in the war between the sections. For 60 years he was a consistent member of Shiloh Methodist Church.
Mr. Horton was twice married. First to Miss Matilda Truesdale, and to this union were born seven children, five of whom survive him. They are J. J. Horton, of Bethune; J. M. Horton, of Pavo, Ga.; G. F. Horton and H. T. Horton and Miss Lizzie Horton who resided at the home place. His second wife was a Mrs. Gaskins, who also survives him.
The remains were interned at Shiloh Friday afternoon, August 8, 1913 after services by Rev. S. D. Baily.
