Jury of Inquest Probes Killing of Jule Smith’s Widow Near Blaney.

A coroner’s jury empaneled to investigate the death of Hattie Smith, a negress, who was killed near Blaney at few nights ago, returned a verdict that she came to her death at the hands of Phillip Trapp, her step-father. Trapp has fled and has not yet been apprehended.

There was testimony at the inquest that Trapp had made threats against Hattie Smith, and also that he was in the vicinity of the killing shortly before the shots were fired.

Jule Smith, Hattie Smith’s husband, was killed in the Winnsboro tragedy this summer.
