1900

According to the United States Census reported on June 9, 1900, Symantha Cupstead (45) rented a home in Lexington County, South Carolina. It was reported that she was the mother of 9 living children. In the home was her sons; Jake Cupstead (23), Thomas Cupstead (19), Jarome Cupstead (16), Francis Cupstead (13), Griffin Cupstead (10 ) and Dallas Cupstead (6). All family members were born in South Carolina. Symantha was a farmer; Jake Cupstead, Thomas Cupstead, Jarome Cupstead, and Francis Cupstead were all farm laborers.

1910 Census Information:

According to the United States Census reported on April 27, 1910, Thomas Cupstid (28), rented a home in Wateree, Kershaw County, South Carolina, with his wife of 4 years, Ellar Cupstid (28). It was reported that she was the mother of two children; both of whom were in the home; Ilamae Cupstid (3) and William Cupstid (1). Also in the home was his brother, Dallas Cupstid (19). Thomas and Dallas were born in South Carolina, however, Ellar, Ilamae and William were born in Georgia. Thomas was a Pastor and Dallas was a laborer on a farm.

1916

On September 14, 1916, Rev. Thomas J. Cupstid was listed in the newspaper article “Hundreds of Telegrams Addressed to Governor.

On September 19, 1916, T. J. Cupstid was listed in the newspaper article “Farm Lands.”

1917

On January 28, 1917, Rev. T. J. Cupstid was listed in the newspaper article “Meet For Prohibition.”

The Rev. J. T. Cupstid, a well known baptist minister of Blaney, died at the Baptist hospital Thursday night, August 9, 1917 about 12 o’clock of typhoid fever. He was brought to the hospital Sunday afternoon in a grave condition.

He was a pastor of Union, Blaney, Timrod and several other churches in Kershaw county

The body will be carried to the Pelion Cemetery this afternoon for funeral and burial at 4 o’clock. The services will be conducted by the Rev. J. C. Holley.

Mr. Cupstid is survived by a wife and four small children. He was 35 year of age, the last nine years of which had been spent in the Baptist ministry. The Rev. Mr. Cupstid leaves many friends to mourn his death. He had been in the Baptist ministry for about nine years. His last charge, which he was serving when his career was ended by his untimely death, was that of Union Church.
