Association Meeting at Eastover Adjourns.
At the Thursday morning session of the Baptist Association at Eastover, which conveyed promptly at 9 o’clock, Dr. W. E. Denham of Columbia conducted the devotional service.
The report on woman’s work was presented by Dr. W. E. Denim, C. P. Wray of Ridgeway, Dr. C. E. Burts of Columbia and Dr. W. T. Derieux of Columbia, Mrs. C. M. Scott of Columbia was presented to the association as the newly elected associational superintendent of the Woman’s Missionary Union.
The following visitors were recognized, Dr. P. T. Hale of Louisville, Kentucky, A. J. Foster of Greenville, representing the Baptist Courier; D. M. Mixon of Greenwood, J. M. Mayers of the Charlotte Association.
The report on public morels, read by W. A Rabb, provoked a lively discussion.
The report on aged ministers’ relief was presented by John Cozart of Ridgeway. An address abounding in wit and pathos was given by Dr. C. C. Brown of Columbia.
And unusually full and accurate report on state missions was presented by J. P. Isenhower of Winnsboro.
The report on Sunday schools was read by Lieutenant Governor A. J. Bethea.
Dr. P. T. Hale of Louisville, Kentucky, representing the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, spoke on his special work of raising an endowment fund of $300,000 for the students fund of the seminary. He reported splendid contributions coming in from this State.
The association adjourned at 1:30 PM and enjoyed a bountiful barbecue dinner served by the people of Eastover.
The report on foreign missions, presented by J. K. Goode of Columbia, provoked the most spirited discussion of the day.
The report on Connie Maxwell orphanage, located at Greenwood, was presented by Dr. J. M. Quattlebaum of Columbia.
The report on digest of church letters presented by Carlile Courtenay of Columbia, showed that practically every church contributed to home, State and foreign missions; that there were 285 baptism during the year, and that the total contributions were $44,963.20.
The following executive board was elected; W. R. Rabb, Westminster; C. P. Wray, Ridgeway; B. H.Yarborough, Jenkinsville; C. E. Buarts, Columbia; J. M. Quattlebaum, Columbia; L. D. Evans, Blaney; W. F. Coleman, Killian.
THe association ajuourned to meet again tonight.
Sixty-one delegates were in attendance.
