1,589 CASUALTIES IN OVERSEAS ARMIES

Thirty-one South Carolinians in the Day’s Lists of Losses


One thousand five hundred eighty-nine casualties are reported in two army lists made public today by the War Department.

Thirty-one South Carolinians are included in the two reports, as follows:

Killed In action: Privates Virdie L. Venters, Johnsonville; Bert F. Reynolds, Lamar.

Died of wounds: Privates Grady M. McClure, York; Charles L. Spradley, Severn; Walters Anderson, Sumter.

Died of disease: Privates James A. Thompson, Kingstree; Isaac E. Harper, Bethel; Willie Williams, Ridgeville.

Wounded severely: Captains York L Wilson, Rock Hill; William F. Marshall, Anderson: Sergeant Norton J. Richey, Central; Corporal Mack Davenport, Simpsonville. Privates Leonard L Hill, Cherokee: Barney B. Hampton, Conestee; Mack Tillman, Blaney: Anthony. R. Brooks, Columbia; Oscar W. Schugart, Chester: Willlam Myers, Barnwell; Lewis Wunchell, Wall Lake; Ralph T. Quinn, Spartanburg; Mack Simmons, Mount Holly; Raymond Wilson, Seneca; William T. Fields, Easley; Lewis A Harris, Conway; Jeff Rice, Olar; Robert Tillman; Blaney; Judson F. Foster, Piedmont; Ellie G. Brandon, York.

Missing in action: Privates Roscoe W. Hester, Gaffney; Carl W. Austin, Greenville; Oscar E. Smith, Pickens.
