Over Two Hundred Students in Contests.
Two hundred and twelve high school students, representing 53 high schools, will debate the question of government ownership of railways today in 26 separate contests throughout the state as the first series of elimination meets of the SOuth Carolina High School Debating league.
Each school is represented by two teams of two debaters each, the affirmative teams debating at home, the negative teams meetings its opponents on foreign territory. Schools whose affirmative and negative teams are both victorious will be entered in subsequent contests to decide the entrance in the final debate in the university chapel for the Manning Trophy cup.
Schools contesting today are:
District No. 1: Wofford, Jonesville, Union, Gaffney, Cedar Springs, Rock Hill, Walhalla, Easley, Anderson, Iva, Clinton, Spartanburg, Woodruff, Winnsboro, Abbeville, McCormick, Greenwood, Laurens, Greenville, Haston, Newberry and Ridgeway.
District No. 2: Columbia, Brookland, Hyatt Park, Dentsville, Pinewood, Kingstree, Georgetown, Conway, Hemingway, Latta, Camden, Blaney, Timmonsville, Dillon, Clio, McColl, Bennettsville, Cheraw, Chesterfield, Kershaw, Sumter and Hartsville.
District No. 3: Leesville, Batesburg, Barnwell, Estill, St. Matthews, Ridgeland, Beaufort, Summerville, Fort Motte and Walterboro.
