Cooper in St. Matthews.

T. B. Cooper, of the Columbia offices of the Federal Board of Vocational Training for the 5th district, visited St. Matthews Wednesday to interview ex-soldiers who have applied for training and compensation under the provisions of the government act for rehabilitation former servicemen who were injured or incapacitated during their span of service in the land forces of the United States. Mr. Cooper will go to Charleston for the remaining part of the week and will go to Georgetown next week.

Undergoes Operation.

Boyd Brown, a Blaney, underwent a minor operation at the Baptist hospital in Columbia and is reported as recovering very nicely.

Visitors From Ballentine

Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Ballentine, of Ballentine, were visitors in Columbia recently.

Schnell in Charleston

B. A. Schnell, county work secretary of the state Y. M. C. A., made a trip to Charleston Tuesday in connection with his work.

Undergoes Operation

Mrs. Olin Price, of Blythewood, underwent an operation last Monday at a local hospital. She is rapidly regaining strength according to reports.

Dr. W. W. Fennel, of Rock Hill, has been in Columbia during the week attending the annual convention of the South Carolina Medical Association and the South Carolina Hospital association conference.

Mr. Ricker in City

George L. Ricker, of Sumter, was a visitor in Columbia Tuesday and Wednesday.

Attending Nurses Meet

Miss Ann Murphy, county health nurse from Orangeburg, has been in Columbia attending the 14th annual convention of the South Carolina State Nurses association in session in this city since Monday.

Returns From Union

Mrs. Manley Sanders has returned to her home in Columbia after visiting Mrs. Haynes Harris in Union recently.

Many Man in Training

A total of 4,650 ex-service men are now in training in schools and shops in the 5th district, according to information given out today by S. C. Groesche of Columbia, supervisor of the Federal Board of Vocational Training in South Carolina.

U. C. T.’s to Meet

The regular meeting of the Columbia U. C. T. post will be held May 21.

Mr. Rose in City

W. P. Rose, of Goldsboro, N. C., contractor who is to erect the six story building on the corner of Sumter and Lady streets for the home of Masonry in Columbia, was a visitor in the city Wednesday, being registered at the Jefferson hotel.
