Funeral Friday Of Doris Cranshaw Bitten By Snake

The funeral of little Dorris Chanshaw was held at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. D. Crenshaw, 1103 Woodrow street, at 4 o’clock Friday afternoon, the services being conducted by the Rev. W. S. Hardin. Interment was at Elmwood. The child is survived by her father and mother and by two brothers, Donald Crenshaw and Marion Crenshaw, and two sisters, Misses Margaret Crenshaw and Lena Crenshaw.

Death was the result of the bite of a snake, while the little girl was in a corn field on the Kirkland place near Blaney and was trying to climb upon the back of a wagon. which was drawn by a mule. The animal gave a sudden start and a moment later the child felt some thing strike her on the right leg. She immediately became alarming ill and was carried to Blaney, where first aid was administered. Later she was brought to the Columbia hospital, where every effort was made to save her life but to no avail.

While no one saw the snake the evidence was conclusive that the fatal injury was due to the bite of a reptile. The mule which was struck on the hind leg was also at once affected by the poison. It is thought that the snake that administered the fatal bite was a rattlesnake.
