Camden, March 21. – Hundreds of people crowded into the Methodist church here today to hear Billy Sunday on one of his flying trips from the Capital City. The evangelist talked on the 23rd Psalm to one of the most appreciative audiences he has faced since coming to South Carolina.

Mr. Sunday was met at the outskirts of the city by H. G. Carrison, Jr., mayor, and B. G. Sanders, representing the board of commerce, who escorted him to the church. The building was overflowing when the evangelist arrived and it was estimated that 500 people on the outside were crowded around the doors and windows and as many more could not get close enough to hear his voice. Besides the citizen of Camden, people were present from Bishopville, Kershaw, Bethune, Westville, Blaney and a large number of tourists from the nearby hotels.

Albert Peterson, member of the Sunday party, conducted the song service. The Rev. W. H. Hodges, pastor of the Methodist church let the opening prayer, and H. F. Cobb sang a solo. Mr. Sunday was introduced by the Rev. J. J. Johnson, pastor of the Baptist church. The Rev. H. H. Harding, rector of the Episcopal church, was also on the platform.

The evangelist took the 23rd Psalm and presented it versed by verse, bringing out as he did the good old fashioned gospel in his peppery way. He summed his entire sermon in his last words when he said, “God has prepared a salvation, it is up to you.”

A collection was taken for the Winona Lake Bible conference, Camden giving $222.17 for the school.

After the service the mayor and the Rev. Mr. Hodges took the party for a tour of the resort hotels. Mr. Sunday stopped at both the Kirkwood and Court inn. The evangelist talked freely of the wonderful resting places and expressed a desire to visit them and rest. He was delighted with the town of Camden, declaring the streets were lined with the most beautiful trees he had seen in some time.
