Rowell-Willford

MARION, S. C., Aug. 1 – Miss Mattie Mae Willford of Cottonton, Ala., and W. M. Rowell of Marion county were married at the Washington Street Methodist parsonage, Columbia, July 25, at 7 o’clock by Rev. M. L. Gunter. The marriage was the culmination of a romance which began at Winthrop summer school where the two young people were taking a course in normal methods.
The beautiful ring ceremony was chosen by the young couple for their uniting. Those present at the marriage were, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Lee, Columbia; Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Lee, Bishopville, and daughter, Bertha Lee, Miss Charlott Ross, Blaney, S. C., Prof. and Mrs. Peter W. Bethea of Winthrop College.
Prof and Mrs. Bethea entertained the bride and groom at their lovely home in Columbia, Saturday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Rowell left for their home in Marion county, Monday morning. They will go to Alabama later on in the summer on their bridal trip and visit the relatives of the bride. The bride and groom were students under Prof. Bethea at Winthrop where their love affair began.
The bride was a student of Cox College, Atlanta, Ga., also a student at Athens, Ga., and she was principal of the Rock Hill school, Lee county, S. C. Her family is prominently known in the section of Alabama from where she comes.
The groom was a student of Clemson college and a veteran in the World War. He was principal of Ark school, Marion county, and is widely and prominently connected in the county.
