News was received in Columbia yesterday of the death yesterday morning at Blackville of Spartan David Goodlett, 28, who was instantly killed when he came in contact with a high voltage wire.
Mr. Goodlett, who lived at 600 Capitol Place, Columbia, was an employee of the Southern Bell Telephone company and yesterday morning about 9:50 was working on a telephone cable. In some way he came in contact with the wire carrying the heavy voltage and he fell to the pavement, dying instantly.
Mr. Goodlett was a member of Shandon Methodist church and resided at 600 Capitol Place. A man of many sterling traits of character he was highly esteemed wherever known.
He is survived by his widow, who before marriage was Miss Minnie Medlin of Blaney; also by three small children; also by his mother, Mrs. Carrie Goodlett of Dawkins, and by a brother, J. B. Goodlett of Dawkins; also by a sister, Mrs. R. T. Kale of Columbia.
Funeral services will be held at 4:30 this afternoon at Shandon Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. F. E. Dibble, pastor. Interment will be in Elmwood cemetery.
