One Meets Death, Another Injured at River Bridge

WINNSBORO, S. C., Feb. 2 – Coroner J. H. Gibson was called to Strother Wednesday to hold an inquest over the body of W. Lee Adams, who fell from the scaffold over the bridge that is being built across the Broad River at that point. The verdict of the coroner’s jury was that Adams came to his death by bodily injuries and possible drowning.” The jury was composed of T. B. Willingham, W. B. Pearson, G. B. Caldwell, O. L. Blaur and J. B. Fraiser, Jr.
The accident occurred Tuesday afternoon. The body was recovered five hours later. Adams came to Winnsboro mills village from Georgia and has just started working on the bridge at Strother on the day he was fatally injured.
The left arm and right leg were broken the latter just above the knee and the lower jaw was smashed.
Levi Sharp was also injured on the same scaffold and the same time and was rushed to the Baptist hospital at Columbia. Walter Haley narrowly escaped injuries by catching on the part of the bridge and hanging there until rescued.
Levi Sharp was reported as resting as well as could be expected at the Baptist hospital Thursday.
