Ministers and Woman Spend Night on Span.
WATER STALLS CAR
The Rev. and Mrs. Best and Rev. Mr. Booth Rescued With Only Heads Above Flood.
Special to The State.
Blaney, Sept. 6 – Their car stalled by the water in the road as they approached Twenty creek, they Rev. E. V. Best, Mrs. Best and the Rev. Mr. Booth spent last night on the bridge of the creek in water that before their rescue at 7:15 this morning had become shoulder high and rose another foot half an hour after their deliverance.
The Rev. Mr. Best and the Rev. Mr. Booth had been conducting revival services at Smyrna Methodist church in west Kershaw county and they with Mrs. Best were returning home last night about 9:30 when they approached the creek and water getting in the motor caused it to stall. Abandoning the car the part made their way to the bridge which was then out of water but could get no father due to high and swift water, the road being lower on tis side of the stream.
The shouts of the marooned persons were heard about 4 o’clock this morning at a house about a quarter of a mile from the creek and a movement was started to effect their rescue.
At 7:15 this morning, Earl Truesdale, who had been summoned and had procured a rowboat, with a companion, went to the rescue and took the stranded trip from their watery perch. The creek had risen steadily after the car was abandoned and by the time help came was shoulder high. Thirty minutes later it had reached a height that would have been over the heads of the refugees.
All three were taken to the home of Mr. Best not far from the creek, six or seven miles from Blaney, where they are under the car of a physician and are expected to recover without being seriously affected by their experience.
