BLANEY, S. C., Sept. 17 – One of the most enjoyable events of the fall season was the lovely reception tendered the teachers on Monday evening in the school building by the ladies of the School Improvement association. The building was prettily decorated with goldenrod and wild fern. As the guest entered the main lobby of the school they were introduced to the receiving line which consisted of the school improvement officers, Mrs. Sallie Bowen, Miss Lillie Belle Evans and Mrs. Mary Simpson, followed by Hon. John G. Richards, governor of South Carolina, Supt. Leonardo Andrea, Denver W. Traxler, Myrtle Laird, Connie Lee Andrea, Mabel Peterson, Jean Starnes, Blanche Wyndham, Myra Pettigrew and Fay Hill. After passing down the line the guests were invited into the library where punch was served by Misses Eliabeth Kelly, Lela Mae Hinson, Adabel Price, Gertrude Brown and Mary Rose. More than four hundred guests called during the evening and at the conclusion of the reception they repaired to the auditorium, where addresses were given by Supt J. Team Gettys and Governor John G. Richards.
The following students left for college this week; Miss Beatrice Ross to Greenville College for Women, Miss Dezma Monroe to Summerland college. Misses Nelle Evans and Mildred Evans to Chicora college.
Mrs. A. T. Simpson entertained the members of the Baptist Women’s Missionary society on Tuesday afternoon at her home.
Mrs. D. E. Bailey has as her guests this week Mrs. W. P. Shaw and Miss Edna Shaw of Southern Pines, N.C.
Miss Pearl Sanders and Mrs. Minnie Monroe spent Wednesday in Leesville at Summerland college.
Mrs. Emma Dora Wilson and children of Columbia have returned to their home after spending some time with her sister, Mrs. W. D. Grigsby.
C. H Ross of Charleston and Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Brown and daugter of Spartanburg were the guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Rose.
Mrs. Levi Moore of Trinity section had as her guest Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. D.T. Moore of Columbia.
Mrs. Frank Eddleman of Columbia was the guest Sunday of Mrs. A. K. Rose.
Miss Cleo Evans is spending some time with her sister, Mrs. Ellerbe Ross of New Brookland.
Leonardo Andrea was a business visitor to Batesburg on Wednesday.
A large number of people from Blaney attended the political rally in Columbia Thursday evening and heard Senator Joe Robertson speak in the University field house.
