Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Painton Jappe returned Friday evening from their bridal trip to Florida are are spending the weekend with the bride’s parents, Dr. James Arthur Watson and Mrs. Watson in Bateburg.

Mr. and Mrs. Jeppe will come the first of the week to Columbia and will be at home to their fiends on High street.

Mrs. James A. Cathcart is in Jackson, Miss., attending the child welfare conference of the American Legion and its auxiliary.

Mrs. Cathcart was recently appointed by Mrs. Byce Fickling, Jr., (illegible)

Miss Louisa Howard and Miss Elizabeth Howard of Atlanta are guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. Charlie Health until the latter part of the week.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fleming of Laurens and henry Barnes of Roanoke, Va., were guest this week at the home of Governor John G Richards and Mrs. Richards. Mr. and Mrs. Fleming and Mr. Barnes were entertained informally at the executive mansion Thursday evening at a dinner.

Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Todd. Jr., and Miss Betty Richards of Laurens are guests at the home of Governor John G. Richards and Mrs. Richards. Mrs. Todd was formerly Miss Kitty Richards.

Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Sauls of Wadesboro. N. C., are expected the first of the week to be guests at the Richards’ home in the executive mansion.

Mrs. John Jacob Seibels has gone to Chicago to visit her sister, Mrs. Howard Erminger, formerly Miss Lila Willingham.


Miss Martha Jane Burnett. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burnett Bliss of Evanston. Ill., will be the guest of Miss Elizabeth Cowan for the Easter dances. Miss Burnett and Miss Cowan were schoolmates last year at Principia college, St. Louis. Miss Cowan expects in June to visit Miss Burnett at her home in Evanston.

A number of informal social affairs are being planned for Miss Cowan’s attractive guest, among them a bridge party planned for Tuesday night by Mrs. Rufus Barnes in Wales Gardens and one Miss Caroline Swaffield later in the week.

Miss Marion Taber will attend the A. T. O. fraternity dance Monday evening in Charleston.

Miss Frances Boykin of Boykins will be the quest of Miss Mary Gaillard this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Moultrie Hutchison have returned from a motor trip to Charleston.

Among visiting ministers conducting services in Charleston today will be the Rev. Hugh R. Murchison, chaplain, University of South Carolina, and the Rev. John McSween, president of the Presbyterian College of South Carolina, Clinton. Mr. Sween leaves Monday for an extended trip to educational institutions in the East and the Middle West.

Mrs. J L. Mims of Edgefield, state president of the W. C. T. U., and Dr. Mary Harris Armor of Greenville, Ga., director of the evangelistic department of the national W. C. T. U., attended the Central district conference of the W. C. T. U., which met at Horrell Hill schoolhouse Wednesday, May 27. They were the guests of Mrs. Charles P. Robinson on Green street during the conference.

Miss Mary Murphy of Charleston is the charming guest for the weekend of Miss Varnia Webb as her home in Shandon. Miss Murphy is a former resident of Shandon, and her many friends are delighted to see her again.

Dr. Harold B. Webb of Nichols and Mullins is the guest for the weekend of his parents. Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Webb, at their home in Shandon.

Mr. and Mrs Chris Chappell and their son. Chris, of Jacksoiville are the quests of Urs. Chappell’s parents for the Easter holidays. Mro Chappell is pleasantly remembered as Miss Margaret Webb.

Frank Cordray, formerly of Savannah, now of Columbia, who is attending the University of Georgia, is spending his Easter vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Cordray.

Mrs. D. Kelly and daughters, Misses Ruby and Eda Faye Kelly, of Columbia and Miss Cleyle Rose of Blaney motored in Blythewood Friday in attend the W. M. C. annual meeting of the Fairfield association.

Miss Cleyle Rose will return to her home at Blaney today after visiting Misses Ruby and Eda Faye Kelly on Forrest drive.

Mrs. Laurence Gainey, who has been the guest of her mother, Mrs. Ernest Martin, on Forrest drive, will return to her home at Hartsville today. Mrs. Gainey will be remembered as Miss “Peggy” Marsh of Columbia.

Miss Nellie Fouche of 1225 Bull street is visiting friends in Newberry.

Mrs. J. A. Merritt of Ridge Springs, who has just returned from spending the winter with her son, Cap. L G. Merritt, U. S. M. C. in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, is visiting her sister, Mrs. C. L. Kibier, for a few days before going to her home.

Albert Rhett Stuart, son of Dr. and Mrs. Garden Clarkson Stuart of Eastover, preacher at the Zion Episcopal church in Eastover, Thursday evening. Mr. Stuart is at home for the Easter holidays. He attends the Episcopal Theological seminary Alexandria.

Charles Fishburne is home for the holidays for the Theological seminary in Alexandria. Va.

Miss Edna Alexander and Miss Nell Clegg are visiting relatives in Rocky Mount.

To the contest sponsored by the South Carolina Music clubs at Greenville, April 4, 5, 6, Chicora will tend the following young women; Misses Elizabeth McDavid, Neva Mitchell Mattie Roud and Madline (illegible).

Misses Dorothy Pepland, Minnie Walker, Ellie Thomas, Anne New and Mrs. Charles New motored in Charleston Friday to visit Magnolia Gardens.

Mr. and Mr. R. S. Wall, Mrs. Griffith and Miss Marion Frazier of Asheville are visiting Mrs. Harry Kent on Wheat street for the weekend after a trip to Magnolia Gardens.

Miss Lois Fischer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Powell, Jr.. is spending the spring holidays with Miss Bettis Lucas in Lakewood, Ohio. Miss Fischer is a student at the Butler university, Indianapolis.

Mr. and Mrs. Eugene King of McBee visited the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Boland, in Shandon last week.

Mr. and Mrs. William Cordray have returned to Columbia from Savannah and established a residence at Assembly and Calhoun streets.
