Special to The State.
Seivern, Aug. 11.- The annual part-time vocational school for farm boys is being held this month at Edisto academy under the direction of Verd Petersen, director of vocational education in the state department of education. Columbia. The work here is being directed by Phil B. Waters, agriculture teacher at Blaney. He is being ably assisted by Mrs. Phil B. Waters, who teaches health; G. W. Sawyer of Monetta, who teaches arithmetic and directs the swimming: Edward Sanders of Summerville, who teaches forestry and agriculture; R. C. Alexander of Steedman, who teaches English and agriculture; Leonardo Andrea of Trenton, who teaches citizenship: T. M. Dwight of Wagener, who directs the evening classwork of the farmers.
The number of boys this year is not so large as in former years, but they are more representative of the typical part-time boy than ever before. The boys come from all the Ridge and Sandhill counties, from Chesterfield to Aiken. Each boy is a young farmer, who is now actively engaged in some phase of farming. The course here is centered around the practical needs of this group of boys. The aim is to enable each farm boy to return home with some practical knowledge that will enable him to make more money profit on his farming operations.
Several prominent farmers and other leaders have been invited to make addresses during the assembly hour along the lines of farming, citizenship and health. Recreation is directed by Mr. Waters and consists of baseball, horseshoe pitching, checkers and hikes.
