WADE HAMPTON JACOBS FUNERAL HELD THURSDAY
Funeral services for Wade Hampton Jacobs, prominent citizen of Richland county, who died at the Baptist hospital Tuesday afternoon, following an illness of about two months, will be held at Spears Creek Baptist church at 4 o’clock Thursday afternoon. The services will be conducted by J. D. Harrelson of Gresham, Rev. A. B. Kennedy, pastor of the Tabernacle Baptist church of Columbia and Rev. W. D. Williams, pastor of Spears Creek Baptist church. Interment will be in the churchyard.
Mr. Jacobs was 65 years of age. He had been referred to as the founder of Pontiac, a progressive community of Richland county. For 18 years he was magistrate at Pontiac. He was a leading citizen of the community and the county. He was a merchant and farmer. He had been a member of the Baptist church practically all of his life. In church work he was also active, having served as chairman of the board of deacons and superintendents of Sunday school. He was also a member for many years of Black Jack Camp, Woodmen of the World.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Laura O. Jacobs; by six sons, Horace T. Jacobs, J. Gary Jacobs, Wilton Jacobs, Curtis Jacobs and Hazel Jacobs of Pontiac; by two daughters, Mrs. Evetta Jacobs and Miss Lois Jacobs of Pontiac; by one brother, P. J. Jacobs of Pontiac and one sister, Mrs. R. B. Jacobs. He also leaves six grandchildren. A host of friends mourn his death.
The following have been asked to serve as honorary pallbearers; Senator James H. Hammond, A. W. Holman, R. Andrew Feagan, White Evans, Brooks Boney, George W. Taylor, Sr., A. F. Spigner, John Hughes Cooper, T. A. Heise, Samuel H. Owens, C. H. Ritter, Thomas H. Peeples, Dr. R. B. Durham, Dr. W. D. Grigsby, W. M. Mobley, and W. F. Coleman.
Those asked to serve as active pallbearers are: J. D. Dunaway, W. D. Danders, T. W. Motley, C. C. Clayton, Ware Carnes and J. D. Edens.
W HAMPTON JACOBS DIES AT PONTIAC
Funeral Services From Spears Creek Baptist Church at 4 O’clock Tomorrow.
Wade Hampton Jacobs, 65, sometimes spoken of as the founder of Pontiac, where he lived, and for 18 years Richland county magistrate there, died at the baptist hospital at 3:15 Tuesday afternoon after an illness of about two months.
Mr. Jacobs is survived by his widow, Mrs. Laura O. Jacobs; by six sons, Horace T. Jacobs, J. Gary Jacobs, Wilton Jacobs, Curtis Jacobs and Hazel Jacobs of Pontiac; by two daughters, Mrs. Evetta Jacobs and Miss Lois Jacobs of Pontiac; by one brother, P. J. Jacobs of Pontiac and one sister, Mrs. R. B. Jacobs, and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Spear’s Creek Baptist church, at 4 o’clock Thursday afternoon with the Rev. J. D. Harrleson of Gresham in charge. He will be assisted by the Rev. R. B. Kennedy, pastor of the Tabernacle Baptist church, Columbia; and the Rev. W. D. Williams, pastor of the Spear’s Creek Baptist church.
Mr. Jacobs was a lifelong member of the Baptist church and was chairman of the board of deacons and superintendent of the Sunday school. For 30 years he was a member of the Black Jack camp, Woodmen of the World. He was the founder of Pontiac, serving the citizens as a merchant, farmer and business man. He had many friends and exerted a wide influence in his community.

J. D. Harrelson, of Gresham, Rev. A. B. Kennedy of Columbia, and Rev. W. D. Williams, pastor of Spears Creek Baptist church. Interment was in the churchyard.
Mr. Jacobs was 65 years of age and had been identified with the progressive movemnets of his community and country for many years. He served as magistrate at Pontiac for 18 years. He was also active in church work and was a member of Black Jack camp, Woodmen of the World.
