Happenings Last Week At Waverley Church

Hi League Enjoys Party – Ladies’ Bible Class Has Monthly Meeting.

The Hi league of Waverley Methodist church enjoyed a party Friday evening in the basement of the church. Quantities of wistaria and jonquils with Judas tree branches were placed attractively about the assembly hall. There were several contests arranged by the superintendent, Mrs. Harold Gibson. In an automobile contest Clinton Pleasant received the first prize and Claude Gillion, Jr., the booby. Fruit punch and cake was served during the evening, Mrs. J. W. Humphries and Miss Wilma Newman assisted Mrs. gibson with the 30 odd children that were present.

The Ladies’ Bible class of the Methodist church held its monthly business and social meeting Friday evening with Mrs. D. T. Mooreon on Laurel street. Mrs. W. H. Tiller presided at the meeting after which there was a short devotional program. During the social hour there were several contests and prizes were won by Mrs. J. A. Ellington, Mrs. P. L. Bouknight, Mrs. W. H. Tiller, Mrs. J. L. Miller and Mrs. A. F. Eleazer. At the conclusion of the evening’s program. Mrs. Moore served a salad course with pound cake and coffee. There was a good representation of the class membership present for the affair.

Mrs. Margaret and Nell Mefford of Spartanburg were the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Olle Mefford last week at their home on Laurel street.

Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Smith of Chester were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gibson last week at their home on the Two Notch Road.

Marion and Harold Gibson of Spartanburg were the guest of Mrs. John Surles and their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Seal Moore last week.

Griffin Robertson of Charlotte was the guest of his aunt, Mrs. C. C. Fleming on Lady street for a short stay last week. He motorer down with a party of friends.

Mrs. H. L. Johnson of Lynchburg, Va., who was the guests of her niece, Mrs. J. H. Rivers on the Two Notch road.

Mrs. A. F. Eleazer is at home from Hemingway where she has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Bessie Brown for several days.

Herman Rivers of Chesterfield, who is attending Edisto academy was the guest of his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Rivers.

Miss Ida Hendrix has gone to John’s Island for a stay of several days with her sister, Mrs. A. C. Bolt.

Mrs. Sula Almaker of Saluda was the guest of her niece, Mrs. E. L. Griffith on Haskel avenue for several days last week.

Mrs. Frank Powers and two grandchildren are at home from Pontiac, where they have been visiting relatives.

Mrs. E. L. Jacobs had as her guests last week at her home on Oak street. Mrs. R. B. Jacobs of Charleston and Mrs. R. D. Carpenter of Savannah.

Mrs. Fred Gilbert and two children, Rebecca and Fred, Jr., of Newberry are the guests of Mrs. Charlie McNeil, Sr., at her home on Laurel street. Miss Evelyn McNeil, who teaches at Blaney, is spending the weekend with her mother, Mrs. McNeil.
