Pre-Nuptial Reception Features Greenwood’s Social Calendar

Greenwood, April 11. – A lovely informal reception was given Monday evening at the home of Mr. Mrs. Joel Bailey for Miss Emma Lee Morgan and James F. Bunting, prior to their wedding Tuesday.

A color scheme of white and green was carried out in decoration.

The bride’s and had for the centerpiece a mock cake in white and green showered with white ribbons and snowdrops, and topped with a miniature bride and bridegroom. Misses Margaret Bailey, Clara Bailey, and Susan Hill Goodwyn served a salad course with hot punch and mints and favors of miniature silver wedding bells were pinned on by Misses Jean Foster Bailey and St. Julienne Goodwyn. Mrs. H. K. Thayer, Mrs. L. A. Payne and Mrs. Taylor Goodwyn assisted Mrs. Bailey in entertaining.

Miss Elizabeth Sproles entertained at a lovely dinner party Tuesday evening in honor of Miss Mary Byrd McGowan of Greer and the members of the Pi Kappa Theta sorority. Mrs. W. C. Sproles, Mrs. Robert Seymour and Miss Sara Sproles assisted the hostess in entertaining.

The April meeting of the Robert A. Waller chapter, U. D. C., was held Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. M. M. Calhoun with Mrs. J. C. Williford, Mrs. T. P. Young and Miss Annie Bond as assisting hostesses.

Mrs. T. F. Wright, the president, presided. Plans were made for Memorial day exercises ad delegates were elected to attend the district meeting to be held at Pickens this month. Those who will represent the chapter are Mrs. F. M. Sheridan, Mrs. M. F. Sanders and Mrs. J. M. Watkins.

Mrs. S. L. Leaman, sponsor of the freshman class at Lander college, entertained the class with a party given at her home Monday afternoon. About fifty were present and they enjoyed a delightful Easter egg hunt on the lawn. Mrs. T. J. Eskridge, Mrs. Harry Bell and the officers of the class, Misses Rosalie Bailey, Nancy Anderson and Ruth Jeffcoat assisted Mrs. Leaman in entertaining.

The J. M. Reynolds chapter, U. D. C., met Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. B. B. Stroupe with Mrs. Alvin Jester and Mrs. C. H. Edwards as assisting hostesses. The following were elected delegates to the district meeting to be held in Pickens: Mrs. Henry McKinney, Mrs. Joe Beaudrot and Mrs. E. H. Balentine. Alternates, Mrs. Bob Cothran, Mrs. W. E. Huff, Mrs. D. T. Owen and Mrs. Joel P. Burnett.

The W. H. Yeldell U. D. C. chapter met Thursday afternoon with Mrs. W. A. Barnett, Miss Louise Henderson and Mrs. R. P. Henderson as hostesses.

Mrs. C. P. Curry and Mrs. W. P. B. Kinard left Saturday for East Orange, N. J., for a visit to Mr. and Mrs. Graham Curry.

Miss Louise Pressley of Charlotte and Miss Carolyn Wright of Seneca are visiting Miss Sue Arrington and Miss Laura Arrington.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Wright, Jr., of Spartanburg and spending this week with Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Wright, Sr.

Miss Virginia Cothran of Spartanburg spent the weekend with relatives here.

Miss Mallie McMaster of Winnsboro is visiting her niece, Mrs. J. D. Harrison.

Mr. and Mrs. Phil Waters of Blaney were the guest of Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Widenan Thursday night.
