John B Bowen was born in 1872.
John B Bowen, 54, died Friday, May 8, 1931, at his residence at 821 Eight street, Olympia.
Mr. Bowen had been in declining health for the past 8 years but the nature of his illness did not grow serious until recently. A textile worker, he had lived for the past 13 years in Olympia before leaving Blaney. Mr. Bowen was a member of Union Baptist Church and was a man highly admired and respected by those who knew him.
Mr. Bowen was survived by his widow, the former Miss Rhodia Sanders; three daughters, Mrs. E. W. Reynolds, Mrs. O. T. Tarleton and Miss Mattie Lee Bowen, of Columbia; two sons, W. C. Bowen and E. L. Bowen, both of Columbia; three brothers, Jack Bowen and William Bowen, both of Blaney, and Benjamin Bowen, of Lugoff, S. C.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, May 9, 1931, at the Union Baptist church near Blaney, conducted by the Rev. A. B. Ferguson, pastor of Whaley Street Methodist church. Interment will be in the churchyard.
