NEWBERRY, Jan. 20 – The members of the local chapters of the Daughters of the Confederacy held an interesting program at Newberry College Tuesday in observance of the birthday anniversaries of General Robert E Lee and the General Thomas J Jackson.
The Rev. T. C. Cannon of Central Methodist church was the speaker of the occasion, and a music program under the direction of Professor John Erickson of the college faculty had part on the program.
Mrs. Drayton Nance, President of the Calvin Crozier chapter, U. D. C., presided. The exercises were held at the chapel hour of college.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Thomas Adams will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their wedding January 31 at their lake Murray home, “Adam’s Camp,” at which time they will hold open house beginning at 4 o’clock in the afternoon and lasting through the evening.
Harry Vigodsky left Sunday to spend some time in New York and other eastern markets, buying spring goods.
Miss Dorothy Rice of Greenwood has recently arrived to take up a position with the United States Department of Agriculture. She is working with E. H. Peckson and is taking the position held by Mrs. Ina Miller
Mr. and Mrs. James R Leavell and Mrs. W. H. Hunt accompanied Miss Lenroe Broadus to Charlotte Tuesday where she went for treatment.
Mr. and Mrs. Marion Friday and Marion, Jr., and Jean, were the weekend guest of his mother, Mrs. J. B. Friday.
Mrs. G. H. Livingston and children have returned from a week’s visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Monroe (Mrs. Minnie Glen Motley Monroe), in Blaney.
Mrs. Frank Gray and daughter, Miss Sarah Ellen Gray, of Jacksonville, Fla., for a recent guest of their relatives, Mrs. A. C. Thomason, Sr.
Dr. F. O. Lamoreux spent Monday with his daughter, Miss Lillian Lamoreux, in Cedartown, Ga.
Miss Elizabeth Reed Boyiston of Marion spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Reed C. Boyiston.
Mrs. Cecil Butler and small daughter, Rose, of Rockmart, Ga., are guest of her mother, Mrs. R. L. Tarrant, ad other relatives here.
Mr. and Mrs. J H Cousins, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cousins went to Columbia to take Drucie and Patricia Cousins to see their father, Olin Cousins, who is a patient at the Veterans hospital.
Mrs. C. M. Hornsby and children of Columbia were guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs.W. H. Eddy.
