Party Announces Wedding of Camden Couple

Camden, Dec. 2. – One of the prettiest social events of the week was the informal tea which Mrs. J. E. Ross gave Thanksgiving eve to announce the marriage of her sister-in-law, Miss Florie Mae Ross and Spencer David Windham of Manning and Camden, November 17. Miss Lila Ross greeted the guests at the front door and as they entered they were given a tiny scroll tied with green and white ribbons, bearing the announcement, by Barbara Joan Ross, the hostess’ small granddaughter.

In the receiving line with Mrs. Ross and Mrs. Windham were Miss Alice Winham of Newberry, and Mrs. H. C. Hill of Sumter and Mrs. Luke Driggers of Columbia who is also a recent bride.

Mrs. B. W. Marshall was in charge of the bride’s register and Mrs. Glenn Maloney of York invited the guests into the dining room where refreshments were served by Miss Jane Caston, Miss Alberta Hoffman, Miss Mattie Lee Cullen, Miss Grace Rhoden and Miss Geneva Jones. In the center of the living room table was a bridal scene arranged on a reflector and four white candles in silver candlesticks. During the appointed hours about 100 guest called.

Mrs. Windham is the youngest daughter of S. E. Ross and the Late Mrs. Ross of Blaney. She attended the University of South Carolina and for the past few years has made her home with her brother, J. E. Ross, in Camden. Mrs. Windham is the son of Mrs. Mamie L. Windham of Manning. He is employed by the Gearge A. Reymond Oil company of Charleston with headquarters in Camden.

Mrs. Wylie Hogue entertained with a bridge part for 16 guest Friday afternoon at her home. A number of guest were also invited for refreshments which were served after the game. The high score prize was won by Mrs. Dess Goodale.

Mr. and Mrs. Davis Green were hosts at a delightful party Tuesday night when they entertained the club to which they belong. Autumn leaves and flowers added to the Thanksgiving feature of the decorations and before the game, a buffet supper was served. Mr. and Mrs. Dess Goodale were both high score winners and the bingo prizes were won by Mrs. James Gandy and Leon Tobin.

The member of her bridge club, Mrs. H. G. Marion and Mrs. Douglas Boykin were the guest at the bridge luncheon which Mrs. T. J. Kirkland gave Wednesday morning. Lunch was served at noon in the dining room where covers were laid for 12. Mrs. Kirkland was assisted in entertaining by her guest, Miss Marie Hart of York, and her daughter, Mrs. Jack Whitaker, Jr.

Mrs. Moylan DuVal had as her guest at a bridge party Wednesday afternoon in addition to the members of her club, Mrs. Jack Whitaker, Jr., Mrs. James Porter and Mrs. Ben Huckley of Mansett, Maine, who was the high score winner. Mr. and Mrs. Huickley and their son, John Ferguson Huickley, are visiting Mrs. Huickley’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. PePass, Sr.

Mrs. George Little also gave a bridge part Wednesday afternoon. Only members of the hostess’ club palyed and the two highest scores were made by Mrs. Kirby Tupper and Mrs. W. L. Goodale.

Mrs. Clifton McKain gave a party for the members of the Neighborhood club Wednesday afternoon at her home. The high scores at this party were made by Mrs. Dess Goodale and Mrs. McKain.

Thursday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Clarkson, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. John Davidson, Miss Faith deLoach and Moultrie Burns drove to Columbia to a dinner party given by Mrs. Hunter Lang in honor of her daughter, Miss Loris Lang.
