16 Teams Set For Kiwanis Basketball Tilt

Camden, Jan. 24 – (Special) – The Camden trade district basketball tournament which gets underway in the gymnasium of the Camden High school Wednesday, January 28, and continues through January 31, will feature the appearance in Camden of over 200 athletes from eight high schools in the Camden trade area.

The tournament is being sponsored and supervised by the Camden Kiwanis club and already the sale of tickets indicate the city capacity of the gymnasium will be taxed at every game. It was announced today by Joe McKain, chairman of the Kiwanis basketball committee that Arthur Robinson will be the referee in all of the games. The sale of the tickets is being conducted under the direction of John Gettys and Marion Williams.

The tournament opens at 4 PM in the afternoon on Wednesday, January 28, with Mt. Pisah battling Central high school, this game will be between the girls team of two schools. At 5 the same afternoon the boys team from Midway and Central will play. Wednesday evening at 7 PM Central and the Blaney high school girls will have the floor and at 8:30 PM, the boys teams from Baron DeKalb and Antioch play. The Thursday program calls for the girls teams of Bethune and Midway to play at 4 p.m., the boys teams of Blaney and Mt. Pisgah at 5 p.m.; the girls teams of Antioch in Baron DeKalb meeting at 7:30 and the girls teams from Camden and Bethune at 8:30. The second round of play starts Friday afternoon at 4 PM and the finals will be played Saturday night, the girls championship event starting at 7:30 and to be followed by the finals in the boys competition.

Kiwanis sponsors for the various teams are as follows; C. H. Schlosburg for Mt. Pisgah, Usher N. Myers for Central, J. H. McLeod for Midway, Cyril Busbee for Camden, Howard Speaks for Blaney, Gene Pearce for Antioch, C. J. Shannon, Fourth for Bethune.
