Mrs. John M. Manuel spent last weekend with her husband at Beaufort and Parris Island.

Miss Beulah Reardon of New Zion, was the guest Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Craig.

Miss Jo Ellen Reed and sister, Patsy, are spending this week with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Harmon in Gaffney.

Mrs. E. P. Templeton, Sr., Miss Catherine Templeton and E. P. Templeton, Jr., visited Mrs. Kate Jeffcoat in Springfield recently.

Visiting Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Cummings on Oaklawn avenue, are Miss Laura Cantley of Presscott, Ark., and Miss Eva Cantley of Arlington, Va., and Mrs. Ralph E. Gales and daughter, Nancy Gales of Aiken.

Mrs. W. F. Hathcock, Sr., has returned home from an extended visit to her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Hathcock in Camak, Ga.

Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Fleming have had visiting them the former’s mother, Mrs. W. D. Fleming of Lancaster.

Mrs. J. W. Derrenbacher, Miss Julia Derrenbacher, Jimmie Dixter and Carol Derrenbacher spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ben Moorer in Calhoun. They were accompanied home by Miss Marjorie Moorer, who will spend the winter with Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Deerenbacher, while she attends the Brookland-Cayce high school.

The Rev. C. Frank DuBose had an appendicitis operation at a local hospital Thursday and is reported to be improving.

Floyd Branham of Blaney, is the guest this week of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ray.

Margie Edwards is spending two weeks with her aunt, Mrs. Rose Ellis in Lancaster.

Mrs. Charles Kay of Charlotte, N. C., has been the guest the past week of Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Jenkins.

Aiken pound is a patient at the Columbia hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Kinard had as their guest Sunday Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Miles and children, Mary Emma Miles, and Lois Miles, of Lykesland. They all motored to Salley, Sunday afternoon for a visit.

Mrs. A. K. Rucker and daughter, Miss Nora Ellen Rucker, who have spent the summer at Folly Beach, will return home Monday.

The Ladies air of the State Street Baptist church met Monday afternoon at 4 o’clock with Mrs. S. B. Bailey at her home of Lyles street. Miss Genevieve Lindsey, vice president, presided over the meeting and Mrs. J. P. Butler gave the devotional. A social hour followed the business period and the hostess assisted by Mrs. C. T. Connor, served sandwiches, cake and ice tea.

Those present were: Mrs. W. H. Johnson, Mrs. J. P. Butler, Mrs. S. K. Abbott, Mrs. R. A. Thompson, Mrs. S. B. Bailey, Mrs. B. A. Joyner, Mrs. R. H. Fulmer, Mrs. O. L. Lindsay, Mrs. W. J. Cayce, Mrs. A. M. Hall, Mrs. T. M. Floyd, Miss Genevieve Lindsay, Mrs. C. T. Connor, Mrs. Fred Ellisor, and Mrs. H. N. Wilds, a visitor.

Wednesday afternoon Miss Alma Craig and Miss Louise Hammond entertained the primary department of the Methodist Sunday school at a picnic on the lawn of the educational building of the church. They were assisted in entertaining by Mrs. C. Frank DuBose and Miss Kathryn Spires.

Those enjoying the occasion were: Marjorie Spires, Becky Jo Bailey, Ronnie Fernell, Slyvia Bailey, Dewey Coggins, Jr., Libby Ann Addy, Bennie Faye Hammond, E. M. Kirkland, Jr., Gene Kirkland, Jackie Jumper, Ronnie Smith, Shirvie Jean Jumper, Nancy DuBose, Julia Ann Fleming and Maxine Edwards. Miss Craig and Miss Hammond are teacher and assistant teacher, respectively, of the department.

Mrs. Nellie Ware spent several days last week at the Isle of Palms.

Mr. and Mrs. Maylon Ware and children, Earl Ware and Dane Ware, have returned home from a three weeks’ visit to Mr. and Mrs. William James at Pierpont, near Charleston.

Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Barker of Badin, N. C., and Miss Helen Barker of Kanapolis, N. C., have been recent guest of Mr. and Mrs. Hayden Weathersbee and Mrs. Nellie Ware.

Recent guests of Mrs. E. P. Templeton were Mrs. H. T. Joines and Miss Delane Jones of Springfield, and Mrs. John Moore of Bastic, N. C.

Sunday guest of Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Bailey and Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Harrill will be Mrs. M. E. Harrison and daughter, Janis Harrison, Mrs. W. P. Lanford and son, Danny Lanford, and Mrs. Harold Alexander and daughter, Diana Alexander, all of Spartanburg.

A Bible school has been held in the past week in the different homes of the members of the State Street Baptist church for the young people of the Sunday school and church. The children enjoyed a social each afternoon after the study periods and on Friday evening the members of the church and those taking part in the study course enjoyed a picnic in the Guignard Park.

Miss Margie Reed of Spartanburg will be the guest Sunday of Miss Hampie Bailey.
