The American Legion auxiliary of West Columbia-Cayce will meet Tuesday evening with Mrs. Henry Addy in Cayce. The assistant hostess will Mrs. Henry Addy in Cayce. The assistant hostess will Mrs. M. H. Boyd. All members are requested to be present.

Lieut. and Mrs. Clyde Shockley of Battle Creek Mich., were weekend guests of Mrs. Shockley’s parents, Mr. ad Mrs. N. J. Buchanan, Mrs. Shocley is the former Miss Willa Dean Buchanan.

Ollie Medlin of Columbus, Ga., is visiting relatives and friends here. He is en route to Moncks Corner to visit his mother, Mrs. C. C. Medlin and other relatives.

Mrs. Ray Senn was the hostess for the October meeting of the Wesleyan Service guild of the Methodist church Monday evening. Devotions were conducted by Mrs. Dora Derrick and the business session was presided over by Mrs. Senn. Minutes and roll call were read by Miss Hazel Ballington. An interesting letter from Miss Allie Cobb, missionary to Brazil, was read by Miss Violet Drake. A Bible contest was enjoyed.

The hostess served a salad course course, hot chocolate and cookies. The Halloween colors were used in the decorations and refreshments. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Dora Derick, with Mrs. Vera Jud and Miss Hortense Rawl as hostesses.

Miss Noveline Hicks has returned after a trip to Williamsburg, Va. On her return she stopped in Lumberton, N. C., to visit her cousin, Mrs. Harry Taylor and family.

Mrs. E. Woody Lucas and sister, Miss Amelia Hodges of Cumter, were recent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Lucas on State street.

Miss Adelade George of Lexington, who is a student nurse at State hospital, spent last Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. Trudell Hall.

The Epworth league of the Methodist church enjoyed a Halloween party Thursday evening in the class rooms at the church, which were appropriately decorated in the season’s colors of black and orange and with vases of chrysanthemums. Many interesting games and contests were enjoyed. Among the winners were Catherine Templeton, Martha Strickland and J. W. Kleckley. Twenty-five guests were present. Refreshments were served.

Mrs. Earl Thompson and Mrs. Dwyght Lee are visiting Burt Lee in New York City.

Cpl. and Mrs. Boyd Meydam left Monday to visit their parents in Peoria, Ill. Corporal Meydam is stationed at the Columbia army air base. They have been living at the home of Mrs. Ethel Meetze on “B” avenue since July 1. Corporal Meydam is on furlough.

Mrs. Maxie Lee Lybrand entertained her Sunday school group Tuesday evening at its monthly business meeting and social. The party rooms were attractive with vases of chrysanthemums and dahlias from the hostess’ gardens. Mrs. Lybrand, leader, led the devotionals and Mrs. W. W. Howard, secretary, called the roll and read the minutes of the previous meeting. After the business session bingo was played and Mrs. E. M. won an attractive prize. Lovely “Secret Sister” gifts were exchanged and new names drawn for the next meeting which will be held with Mrs. V. C. Crapps on November 17. This will be a birthday offering part. The hostess, assisted by Mrs. James Lybrand and Mrs. Crapps, served a sweet course, coffee and Halloween candies. Those present were: Mrs. E. M. Lucas, Mrs. V. C. Crapps, Mrs. Herbert Hook, Mrs. S. J. Doyle, Mrs. W. E. Awtrey, Mrs. W. J. Sox, Jr., Mrs. W. W. Howard, Mrs. Heyward Doyle, Mrs. Leroy Boon, Mrs. Ethel Meetze, Mrs. Joe Doyle, Mrs. Gary Lown, Mrs. James Lybrand and Mrs. Maxie Lybrand.

Mrs. D. H. Marchant, Jr., arrived this week from Asheville, N. C., and she and her husband, who is principal of the Brookland grammar school, have taken an apartment at the home of Mrs. Dora Derrick.

Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Watson (Clemmie Eloise Flaherty Watson) and son of Blaney visited their daughter and sister, Miss Grace Watson, Friday afternoon. Miss Watson is a member of the grammar school faculty.

Mrs. Dora Derrick had as her recent guest her niece, Miss Mary Tribble of Erskine college.

Mrs. L. A. Hobbs and daughter, Jilda Hobbs and Brilla Ann Hobbs, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Howard Derrick in Des Moines, Ia.

W. P. Lindler of Leesville stopped for a short visit at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Ethel Meetze, Thursday.

Bill Manus and daughter, Barbara Ann Manus, of Detroit, Mich., are the guest of Mr. Manus’ mother, Mrs. R. B. Stanton.
