Lieut. Recounts War Adventure

Lieut. Otha E. Emert, who was stationed at Fort Jackson last March, has just been heard from by his father-in-law, J. W. Ford of Blaney.

He writes, “On March 20, 1943, I was ordered to serve overseas. At this time I was at Fort Jackson with the One Hundredth division.

“On April 18 we loaded the ship and pulled out the next morning. On the end of our journey we found ourselves in the harbor of Casablanca.

“. . . We went into bivouac in and around Marsale, stayed there for four or five days, and there is where the fireworks started for us. WE were pinned down for the rest of the day then at night we moved up on the Jerries and they had to pull out.

“. . . During all this work and travelling and fighting I found that the American soldiers are getting the best of food and fighting equipment.”
