Memoriams C

In memory of my brother, Pfc. Calvin F. Blackwood, who was killed in action, July 9, 1944.

My darling, it’s been eight months today since we heard you were gone,
But you never knew how we had planned; for the day that you’d come home.

We know that you had spent three years in service over there,
But for the cross you had to bear, a golden crown you’ll wear.

I don’t know just how you went, my little baby brother,
But for one who did his duty better, I know there is no other.

We never saw you any more after you left us here,
But, darling, we are plan ning on a happy time up there.

We know, without a doubt, you’re safe in Heaven up above;
For you laid down your life for us and the country we all love.

We also know from the way you lived, you did not fear to die,
So, my darling: we’ll see you again, in a mansion in the sky.

A Devoted’ Sister,
Mrs. Nick Bowen,
Blaney, S. C.
