The steering committee of the Sears, Roebuck pig chain project, Columbia trade area, has completed plans for the local Future Farmers of America livestock show which will be held during the early part of November.
Five gilts and one boar have been placed with each chapter and distributed to members by Sears, Roebuck. Each contestant will need, care for and breed his pigs and enter them in the show. Prizes are to be awarded for the best gilt exhibit within each chapter and the best boar from all chapters. The prize consist of heifers calves, gilts and baby chicks.
Schools which will take part are Blaney, Batesburg, Leesville, Brookland-Cayce, Chapin, Fairview, Gilbert, Irmo, Lexington, Swansea, Blythewood, Columbia, and Dentsville.
Serving on the steering committee are Edward Carroll, manager of the Columbia Sears Roebuck Company, chairman; F. W. Shore, agricultural teacher, Columbia high school; C. E. Young agricultural teacher, Blaney High School; L. H. Eleazer, agricultural teacher, Gilbert high school, Gilbert, and W. C. James, assistant supervisor of agriculture education, state department of education.
