September Report – Funds From State Beer Tax Returned to Cities, Towns

Cities in towns and central South Carolina received a total of $8699.51 from the state tax on beer for the month of September, state tax commission figures disclose this week.

The commission distributed funds totaling $31,981.75 from the tax on beer and wine. Since beer produces about $.90 of the combined revenue, the figures show that beer alone brought a total of $28,783.58 to the various incorporated towns of South Carolina in September.

The September distribution raised to $134,399.53 the amount of beer tax revenue distributed to incorporated towns in the first three months of the 1947-1948 fiscal year.

In addition the state government kept $1,428,000 in beer revenue for school aide and payment to teachers salaries.

September beer revenue for the towns in Central South Carolina were Darlington $296.90, Hartsville $257.07, Lamar $43.84, society hill $32.69 (Total for Darlington county $630.47.)
