Alex Hornsby Dies, Victim of Hit-and-Run

Alex Hornsby, 61, of Beltline boulevard died at 6:15 last night from injuries received on February 27 when he was found unconscious in a ditch on Forest drive, apparently the victim of a hit-and-run driver. Mr. Hornsby never regained consciousness.

The case is being investigated by the South Carolina highway patrol and Richland county officers.

Mr. Hornsby, originally from Fairfield county, had lived in Columbia for the past 30 years where he was a well known produce merchant. He was a member of Sunnyside Baptist church.

He is survived by his widow, the former Elizabeth Brown; two sons, Lonnie Hornsby of Columbia and Woodrow Hornsby of Gastonia. N. C.; three brothers, Mike Hornsby and James Hornsby, both of Blaney, and Turner Hornsby of Ridgeway; three grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 3 o’clock Tuesday afternoon from the McCormick Funeral home.

Rites Set Today At 3 P. M. For Alex Hornsby

Funeral services for Alex Hornsby, 61, who died Sunday, were to be conducted today at 3 p.m. at the McCormick Funeral home by the Rev. W. T. Chewing and burial was to be in the Elmwood cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Grover Davis, Melvin Davis, Gene Faust, Edward Hornsby, Boykin Hornsby and Leslie Brannon.

Alex Hornsby To Be Laid to Rest Here Today
