Miss Quincy Coggins, manager of Stone Manufacturing company, was entertained with a surprise party given in honor of her birthday by the employees April 12, at Arsenal Hill Community center.
About 150 employees and guests were present and upon her arrival everyone joined in singing “Happy Birthday.” At the conclusion of the song, she was presented with a corsage of red rosebuds, gift of the employees, by Ward Stone of Greenville.
Games and music were enjoyed throughout the evening. Miss Barbara Corley sang and dedicated to Ward Stone of the Greenville plant “If I Knew You Were Coming I’d Baked A Cake” and at the conclusion presented him with a cake. Charles Smith gave a piano-logue.
Miss Coggins received many lovely gifts, among which was a wrist watch and silver chest, presented her by the employees.
The guests were invited downstairs, where punch, sandwiches and cake were served by Mrs. T. L. Blackwell, Mrs. A. H. Braswell, Mrs. C. A. Smith, Mrs. Marvin Amick, and Mrs. Everette Connelly. A pink and green motif was used throughout.
Celebrating with the Columbia group were: Ward Stone and a party from the Greenville plant, which included A. J. Grimwood, Mrs. Audrey McKinney and Mrs. Juanita Young; also Misses Patsy and Barbara Roberts, nieces of Miss Coggins.
