‘Jack and Beanstalk’ Cast Announced by Junior Theater

The cast of “Jack and The Beanstalk,” the first of three plays to be presented by the Columbia Junior theater under the direction of Mrs. Mary Lou Kramer, was announced today.

There will be three performances of the play. An evening performance on Friday Oct. 27, a matinee and an evening performance on Saturday, Oct 28.

Scrappy Dobbins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ragland Dobbins,and an A. C. Moore school student, will play the part of Jack. Sylvia Jacobs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Horace T. Jacobs (Clara Mae Jacobs) and a student at University high school, will play the role of his mother.

Jack Nixon, son of the Rev and Mrs Eugene Nixon and a Hand junior high school student, will portray the butcher. Gelene Duncan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alderman Duncan, a student at Brennen school, will take the part of the fairy. Dick Breeland, Columbia attorney, will portray the giant. The giant’s wife will be played by Miss Jean Rush, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. M. McCulloch.

Barbara Fripp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert T. Fripp and a Brennen student, will be Gold Piece; Dell Dutrow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Dutrow and a Taylor pupil, will be the hen, and Lynn Talley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Cotrell Talley and Schneider student, will be the harp.

The role of Buttercup, the cow, will be Paul Rogers, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Rogers and Robert McElveen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond McElveen.

Actors in the prologue which precedes the three-act play include Jimmy Fuller, son of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Fuller and a student at Hand junior high school, as a property man; Carolyn Merritt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Merritt, also of Hand, as the young mother, and Dickie Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Anderson, a student at Good Shepherd parochial school, as the little boy.

Persons interested in helping with props, scenery, costumes, make-up, box office work are asked to call Mrs. Kramer at 9824.

Junior membership tickets, which entitle the holder to season tickets to the three Junior theater productions are available at the Town theater box office at $1.25.
