Betty Steele Wins Kershaw Spelling Bee

Camden, April 16- (Special) Miss Betty Steele, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Steele fo this city and a student in the Camden elementary school, was winner of the Kershaw spelling bee recently held in the auditorium of the Camden grammar school.

Raymond McFee, son of Mrs. W. R. McFee of this city and a student in the Camden junior high school, was second, and Tommy King, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. King of Bethune, was third.

The bee was conducted by Mrs. Inez C. Eddings of the Richland county departments of education, and the judges were Mrs. Abbott Goodale, Mrs. J. L. Guy and Richard Hamilton. Betty Steele was represent Kershaw in the finals April 28 in Columbia.

Other who took part in the contest were Helen Sue Lowery of Mt. Pisgah, Margaret Strickland of Blaney, Barbara Barfield of Pine Grove, Ann Munn of Lugoff, Bobbie Jean Stover of Kershaw, Wayne Sullivan of Midway and Nellie Wilson of Pine Tree Hill.
