Columbia traffic policemen were kept on the run yesterday investigating at least 13 automobile accidents in the city which resulted in injury to at least one person and property damages estimated at approximately $1,700.
Five-year-old John Barfield of Gonzales Gardens was slightly injured at 4:40 yesterday afternoon when he was struck by an automobile while crossing Garden Plaza, according to a police report. The driver of the automobile, a 1951 Ford, was identified by police as George T. Glymph of 2428 Green street.
1950 Chrysler sedan, belonging to Bishop Frank Madison Reid of 2322 Taylor street, collided with a 1940 Chevrolet coach, driven by Oscar J Dinkins of Blaney, at 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon in the 1200 block of Assembly street, according to a police report, Bishop Reid’s car was driven by the Rev. Fred A. Hughes of Loris, according to the report. Damage to the Chrysler was estimated at $300 and to the Chevrolet at $200.
A police squad car driven by Dectective Talley Sharpe was involved in a minor accident in the 1500 block of Assembly street at 5:40 yesterday when it collided with a Chevrolet truck driven by Jack Gigson of Inman, according to a report at the traffic division.
Other accidents investigated yesterday were: At 4:45 p.m. in 900 block of Gervais street, 1949 Chevrolet pickup and 1952 Packard sedan, $32; 4 p.m., 1400 back of Assembly, 1942 Chevrolet sedan and 1951 Kaiser, $28; 7:30 a.m., 1300 block of Gervais street, 1951 GMC truck owned by The State company and 1951 Chevrolet coach, $50; 2 p.m., 1300 block of Hampton, 1946 Pontiac sedan and 1941 Ford sedan, $125; 10:30 p.m., Gervais and Gadsden streets, 1951 Jeep station wagon and 1936 Ford coach, $60; 11:30 p.m., 2400 block of Read street, 1937 Hudson sedan and 1936 Dodge pickup, $350; 4:30 p.m., Assembly and Senate streets, 1951 Oldsmobile sedan and 1946 Ford pickup, $70; 9:45 p.m., 1200 black of Gervais street, 1939 Plymouth and 1947 Dodge, $12; 10 p.m., Harden and Calhoun streets, 1940 Ford coach drive by Wolfe T. Jeffcoat, Jr. of 2007 Pulaski street, overturned, $400.
