According to the United States Census reported on June 6, 1900, James W Wood (43), owned a home in Wateree, Kershaw County, South Carolina, with his wife of 20 years, Mary A Wood (45), their children; James H Wood (22), Mary J. Wood (17), Rebecca E Wood (15), Marion D. Wood (13), John W Wood (10) and Sallie P Wood (5). All family members reported having been born in South Carolina. James W Wood was a farmer, James H Wood, Marion D. Wood and John W Wood were laborers on the farm, Mary A Wood reported being the mother of 8 children; 6 of whom were living at the time.

1910 Census Information:

According to the United States Census reported on April 27, 1910, James W Wood (52), owned a home in Wateree, Kershaw County, South Carolina, with his wife of 33 years, Mary A Wood (58), their children; John W Wood (20) and Sallie P. Wood (15). All family members reported having been born in South Carolina. James W Wood was a farmer and John W Wood was a labor on the home farm. Mary A Wood reported being the mother of 8 children; 6 of whom were living at the time.

1930 Census Information:

According to the United States Census reported on April 28, 1930, John W Wood (40) owned a home in Wateree, Kershaw County, South Carolina, with his wife, Francis I Wood (42). All family members reported having been born in South Carolina. John W Wood was a farmer on a general farm.

1940

On January 21, 1940, John W. Wood was listed as the living son in the obituary of James Wiley Wood.

1940 Census Information:

According to the United States Census reported on April 28, 1940, John W Wood (50) owned a home in Wateree, Kershaw County, South Carolina, with his wife, Francis Wood (50). All family members reported having been born in South Carolina and lived in the same house on April 1, 1935. John W Wood was a laborer for the W. P. A. road construction.

1957

BLANEY, Jan. 20 (Special) – John W. Wood, 67, died this morning, January 20, 1957, at his home here after a long illness.

He was born in Kershaw County, the son of the late James W. Wood and Mary Albert Wood. Until recently he had farmed in this community.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Frances Hammon Wood of Blaney; one brother, B. M. Wood of Bishopville; three sisters, Mrs. Jannie Mason of Charleston, Mrs. T. C. Connell and Mrs. Pauline Mason of Columbia, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday, January 21, 1957, at 4 p.m. Monday from the Crescent Hill Baptist Church at Blaney by the Rev. R. J. Brookshire.

The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Union Church Cemetery.
