Doris Miles of Eau Claire High School will head the South Carolina Chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America during the coming year.
She was elected at the group’s ninth annual conference in the Hotel Wade Hampton today.
Other officers elected are Barbara Tomlinson, Lower Richland High School, vice president; Judy Bolding, Berea High School, secretary: Henry Lewis, Greenville School, treasurer; and Nancy Sharpe, Parker High School, Greenville, reporter.
Outgoing president is Gwynne Burrows of Hemingway.
Also at today’s meeting organizational charters were officially presented to Future Business Leaders of American chapters in Blaney, Lexington, and Kingstree High Schools. The officers of the new groups were also administered their oaths.
University of South Carolina President Donald S. Russell will address the students at the annual banquet in the hotel ballroom tonight. Presenting greeting from the State Department of Education will be Dr. Jesse T. Anderson.
Awards and certificates in contests held this afternoon will be presented at the banquet. making the presentations will be Joanne Lee, 1956 Spelling winner; Mrs. Joan F. Phibbs, 1951-52 state president; Edwin Huggins, 1956 Mr. Business Leader; and Doris Miles, 1956 oral speech winner.
Presenting vocal selections at the banquet will be Elton LeGrand, Blythewood Chapter, accompanied by Janice Grimsley. A piano solo will be given by Mary Louise Sauls, Brookland-Cayce chapter.
At last night’s dance Miss Gladys Gamble and Buddy Jordan, both students at Columbia’s Dreher High School were named “King and Queen of Hearts.”
The South Carolina Future Business Leaders of American is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. The first chapters formed were in Greenville, Dillon, Columbia High, Lancaster, Hemingway, Walterbro and Lander College.
