NY SandPlant To Establish Blaney Unit

CAMDEN, Feb 10 (Special) – Local Chamber of Commerce officials announced recently that a New York industrial sands and foundry materials company will construct a sand processing plant on a 392-acre tract near Blaney, seven miles south of Camden on Highway 12.

Though the exact construction date was not announce, Stanley Llewellyn, chapter manager, told some 120 persons attending the chamber’s annual banquet business meeting that he had reasons to believe construction on the plant may begin “before the end of this month.”

Whitehead Brother Co., a byword for a century in the sand and glass industry, revealed its decision to establish a branch plant in Kershaw County in a letter received Wednesday by Mr. Llewellyn.

Total initial cash outlay for the land, plant construction and the equipment will reportedly be around $750,000, the chamber manager said.

Pertinent data such as how many persons the plant will employ and annual pay-roll was not available for publication at the time.

The plant will locate on lands acquired from Talmadge Bowen, who, along with a railway company, was instrumental in clearing the last obstacles remaining in the plant’s way – acquisition of the necessary land and a railway siding.
