CAMDEN – Thomas McCaskill an eighth grade pupil at Midway School in Kershaw County’s 1960 spelling champion.

The 13-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. T. C. McCaskill of Cassatt, took first place in the county contest, held here, and will represent the county in the state contest at Anderson this spring.

Vicky Pitts of Camden Junior High School took second honors, while Margie Herring of Antioch copped third honors.

Others in the contest included Diane Faulkenberry of Mt. Pisgah, Wayne Branham of Pine Grove, Jackie Napper of Pine Tree, Becky Parker of Camden Elementary School, Judy Davis of Bethune, Bobby Hudson of Blaney and Harvey Dease of Baron DeKalb School.
