Miss Carmeta Annette Bolt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bolt of Columbia, and Benjamin Franklin Whaley, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Franklin Whaley of Columbia, spoke their wedding vows in the Kilbourne Park Baptist CHurch on August 26 at 3 p.m. The Rev. Leslie W. Edwards, pastor of the couple, officiated at the double – ring ceremony, which concluded with the lighting of the wedding candle.
The wedding music was presented at the organ by Miss Janie Brooke, organist, and Betty Bigham, soloist.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, was lovely in her floor-length gown of silk organza and rose point lace. The bodice was fashioned with a deep, seed pearl embroidered yoke of lace. The wide scooped neckline was scalloped and the long sleeves of lace ended in a point over the wrist. The full skirt of organza was appliqued with sprays of lace and extended into a chapel train with wide panel of lace running the full length. Her veil of bridal illusion fell should length from an illusion rosette. She carried a white Bible covered with a bouquet of tuberoses centered with a yellow throated orchid.
The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Johnie Jean Bolt, as maid of honor. She wore a pale pink organza sheath with detachable overskirt of pink organza petals.
The bridesmaids were Misses Virginia Reid, Doris Jenkins, Ellen Horton and Catherine Dutton of Columbia, Miss Laura Anne Saunder of Allendale and Miss Eugenia Howie of Abbeville. The gowns of the bridesmaids were identical with that of the maid of honor.
The bridegroom was attended by his father as best man. Serving as ushers were Jack Bolt Jr., brother of the bride, James C. Moore Jr. and Bill Hotlinger of Columbia, David A. Bodie Jr. of Clover, Kenny Rose of Blaney and John Cooper of Newberry.
Immediately following the ceremony, the parents of the bride entertained with a reception at the Fellowship Hall of the Church.
Following the reception the bride changed to a traveling suit of navy blue linen with matching hat and red accessories and the young couple left immediately for a trip to the Blue Ridge mountains. Upon their return, they will be at home at 448 Peachtree Street, Clemson College.
