Mrs. C. H. Sutherland

Mrs. Clyde Heyward Sutherland, 52, of 406 Hillcrest Ave., died unexpectedly at her residence early Wednesday morning.

The former Mildred Ballentine, she was born in Columbia, a daughter of the late John Quincy Ballentine and Ottie Hair Ballentine. She was a charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Reformation, and a member of the Adult Couples Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Sutherland was employed by the Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company for a number of years.

Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. A. C. Roland (Sylvia) and Clyde Hanorah Sutherland; a son, Heyward Ballentine Sutherland; two sisters, Mrs. Greever Derrick and Mrs. Paul Scott; three brothers, J. Q. Ballentine and Roland Boland, of Columbia, and Ernest H. Boland Jr., Greenville; her stepfather, Ernest H. Boland Sr.; four aunts, Mrs. J. Paul Ross, Blaney; Eva Boulware, Blair, and Mrs. Roy Rabon and Mrs. J. R. Boozer, both of Columbia; and an uncle, Heyward Hair, Spencer, N. C.

The body is at the Dunbar Funeral Home, Gervais Street Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Lutheran Church of the Reformation, conducted by the Rev. A. Kenneth Hewitt, D.D. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be David S. Lever, L. V. Little, Herbert Draughan, James T. Hair, George L. Taylor, D. W. Webber, Leroy Rabon Jr. and Dr. Harold E. Ross.

Honorary pallbearers will be J. R. Dickson, I. N. Parker, D. H. Campbell, A. B. Glasscock, S. W. Steele, Charles Combs, Dr. E. W. Master, members of the Curch Council of the Lutheran Church of the Reformation, members of the Adult Couples Sunday School Class, officers and employes of Columbia Brick and Tile Company, Columbia Pipe Company and Richland Shale Products Company.

Active pallbearers will meet at the Dunbar Funeral Home, Gervais Street Chapel at 2:30. Honorary pallbearers will meet at the church at 3.
