WASHINGTON (AP) – Four places in South Carolina have new names approved this year by the United States Board on Geographic Names. The new names:
Elgin – for a town formerly called Blaney in Kershaw County, 12 miles southwest of Camden and 18.5 miles northeast of the center of Columbia.
Ocella Creek – for a tidal stream about four miles long, heading in a marsh and flowing generally eat-northeastward to South Carolina, 22 miles southwest of Charleston.
South Creek – for a channel about 2.4 miles long between the North Edisto Island, instead of Townsend River or Townsend’s River.
Store Creek – for a stream about six miles long, on Edisto Island about .6 miles southeast of the village of Edisto Island of Charleston County.
