Jess Jerome (Happy) McLendon was born October 11, 1914 in Blaney, South Carolina, the son of George Tillman McLendon and Ola Rosa Watts McLendon.

CHAPIN – Funeral services for Jess Jerome (Happy) McLendon were held today, November 18, 1971 in Pope Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Albert Cox. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Julian Coleman, Heyward Cooper, Johnny Wells, Harold Douglas Jr., Lindsey Cooper and Maj. James C. Williamson.
Mr. McLendon, 56, died unexpectedly Tuesday, November 16, 1971 at his home.
A son of the late George T. McLendon and Ola Watts McLendon, he was born in Blaney. He operated a restaurant in the Fairfield Manufacturing Co. in Winnsboro and was a Mason and member of Hejaz Temple of the Shrine.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nadeen Summer McLendon; a son, James J. McLendon of Columbia; three sisters, Mrs. Mae Beck of Santa Maria, Calif., Mrs. Ophelia Delgardo of San Francisco and Mrs. Beatrice Craft of Newport News, Va.; and a brother, James G. McLendon of Columbia.
