William Thomas Screws was born February 23, 1912 in Andalusia, Alabama, son of Charlie E. Screws and Mattie Kate Benton Screws.

1930 Census Information:

According to the United States Census reported on April 11, 1930, Chas L Screws (44) rented a home in Dozier and Searight, Chreshaw, Alabama with his wife, Mattie C Screws (36). It was reported that he was first married at the age of 20 and she was 17. Also in the home were their children; William T Screws (18), Hugh E Screws (16), Mary E Screws (12), T Margaret Screws (8) Mattie L Screws (6) and Dorothy J Screws (1). All family members were born in Alabama. Chas L Screws was a farmer on a general farm.

1937

On October 16, 1937, William T Screws and Enda Smith were married in Crenshaw County, Alabama.

1940 Census Information:

According to the United States Census reported on April 11, 1940, William T Screws (27) rented a house in Crenshaw County, Alabama with his wife, Edna Screws (20) and their son Don T. Screws (1). All family members were born in Alabama and lived in the same house on April 1, 1935. William T Screws was an inspector at a lumber mill.

1974

ELGIN – Funeral services for William Thomas Screws, 62, were held today, December 24, 1974, at 2 p.m. in Blaney Baptist Church with burial in Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Greenwood..

Mr. Screws died Sunday, December 22, 1974, en route to a family reunion in Montgomery, Ala., after a sudden illness.

Kornegay Funeral Home was in charge of services.

He was born in Andalusia, Ala., son of the late Charlie E. Screws and Mattie Benton Screws. Mr. Screws was vice president of Westville Lumber Co. and a deacon of Blaney Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Enda Smith Screws; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Alice) Altman of Columbia; two sons, Don Screws of Greenwood and Ted Screws of Cleveland, Ohio; and three sisters, Mrs. O. S. (Tinnie) Petty, Mrs. D. L. Raley and Mrs. Mattie Warren of Rome, Ga.; and a brother, H. E. Screws of Montgomery, Ala.
