Bessie Virginia Connell Austin was born December 8, 1919 in Elgin, Kershaw County, South Carolina, a daughter of Thurlow Christopher Connell and Rebecca Woods Connell.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Virginia Connell Austin will be held tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Odell S. Belger. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

The casket will be placed in the church an hour prior to services.

Pallbearers will be Bubba Riley, Rena Loftis, Don Smith, Martin Belger, Doug Belger and Glen Shealy.

Mrs. Austin, 63, of 101 S. Williams St., died Sunday in the Baptist Medical Center.

Born in Blaney, she was a daughter of the late Thurlow Christopher Connell and Rebecca Woods Connell. She was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church and a retired employee of Columbia Pacific Mills.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Patricia C. Metz of White Rock, Mrs. Linda Joan Knott of St. Matthews, Mrs. Andrea J. Tallon of West Columbia and Ms. Deborah A. Barfield of Columbia; eight grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Smith of Columbia; and a brother, Thurlow C. Connell Jr. of West Columbia.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 o’clock at the Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
