The youth take on the adults in a benefit basketball game at Blaney Baptist Church at 7 tonight. Proceeds will go toward summer youth camp. Limited concessions will be available.

St. Joseph Catholic Church and the American Guild of Organists present One In Christ, an ecumenical hymn festival, Sunday at 4 p.m. at St. Joseph’s, 3600 Devine St. Choirs from Washington Street United Methodist and Good Shepherd Episcopal churches will join St. Joseph’s choir. Admission is free.


Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church will celebrate the first anniversary of their pastor, the Rev. Jack Wilson, at 4 p.m. Sunday at the church, 400 old Bluff Road, Hopkins. The Rev. Odell Sims, pastor of Mount Nebo Baptist church, will be the guest speaker. The public is invited.

Bethune Baptist Church invites everyone to its spring revival services, Sunday through Wednesday, at 7 p.m. each day and at 11 a.m. Sunday. Dr. Joe F. Peek, the new pastor of the church, will be the evangelist for the services except Wednesday, when North Greenville College’s contemporary Christian music ensemble, “Joyful Sound,” will present a service of music, testimony and message.

Eau Claire Baptist Church, Columbia, has called the Rev. Larry Ray Zaky as pastor. Zaky began his duties Monday. He comes from West Oxford Baptist Church of Oxford, N.C. He is a graduate of Gardner Webb College and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

The midyear executive board of South Carolina Woman’s Christian Temperance Union will meet Tuesday at Morrison’s Cafeteria meeting room, Dutch Square, Columbia, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Members of WCTU and prospects are invited. Also, Mrs. Frank Roberts Union of WCTU meets the first Monday of each month, September through May, at S&S Cafeteria on Gervais Street, 11 a.m.

Dr. Jack F. Heinsohn, chaplain of Erskine College and Seminary, will give his “Grease Paint, Nose Putty, False Faces” sermon Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Lesesne Auditorium of the college. The public is invited.

Midweek Lenten services will be held each Wednesday during Lent at 7:30 p.m. at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, 1000 B Ave., West Columbia. Pastors James R. Connelly Jr. and Pam Mitcham will alternate in preaching the sermon on aspects of the theme “Nails of the Cross.” During Holy Week, April 4-10, there will be a chancel drama on Tuesday, a Service of Healing on Wednesday, Maundy Thursday Holy Communion and the Good Friday Tenebrae Ser vice. A sunrise worship service will be held Easter Sunday, April 11.

Weekly Lenten services continue at Main Street United Methodist Church Wednesday at noon, led by the Rev. Bill Kinnett, former associate pastor, Washington Street United Methodist Church.

Discovering Magic In Everyday Life, a four-week class based on the teachings of Chogyam Trungpa, will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Cost of $25 includes meditation instruction, lectures and text. The Shambhala Meditation Center is upstairs at 2065 Blossom St., 254-9048.

Imprisoning the South Carolina Economy, second annual conference, will be Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., at St. Andrews Baptist Church, 230 Bush River Road, Columbia. The conference will cover the cost of the state’s high rate of incarceration and how attitudes can be changed to correct the problem. $10 registration fee may be mailed to Imprisoning the S.C. Mike DiSanza, retired New York City police officer, will speak at Bethel Fellowship Church, U.S. 21, Orangeburg, at 6:30 p.m. March 13 and at 10 a.m. March 14.

The Concordia Choir of Bronxville, N.Y., will present a concert at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lee and Santee streets at 7:30 p.m. Fri-day. The 48-voice choir will include works by Telemann, Brahms, Ritter and Aufdemberge.

Lyttleton Street United Methodist Women will have their annual spring bazaar and luncheon from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 13 in the Family Life Center gym of the church at 1206 Lyttleton St., Camden. Tickets for the luncheon, with seatings at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., will be $5.

Jerry Johnston, evangelist, author and communicator, will lead a Family Crusade at Trinity Baptist Church, 2003 Charleston Highway, Cayce, March 14-17. Services will be at 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. March 14, and at noon and 7 p.m., March 15-17.

A symposium entitied “Hard Decisions in the Face of Death” will be held at 10 a.m. April 3 at Trenholm Road United Methodist Church. Registration is $10 and includes lunch.

The symposium, sponsored by the South Carolina Conference Board of Church and Society of the United Methodist Church, will feature a keynote address by Columbia cardiologist Dr. Donald Saunders with a closing address by Dr. Nora Bell, a local philosopher and medical ethicist. The College of Charleston will host the 1993 meeting of the Southeastern Regional Conference on the Study of Religion, March 19-21.
