HOMES ALL AGLOW

We asked readers to tell us about some of the more elaborate holiday light displays — the ones you wouldn’t mind making a short drive to see. Here is a list of their favorites:

COLUMBIA/FOREST ACRES/RICHLAND COUNTY

4617 Sandy Ridge Road: This home, near North Trenholm Baptist Church in Forest Acres, is notable for its characters from Whoville (“How the Grinch Stole Christmas!).

216 Mann Road: This Northeast Richland home, off Hard Scrabble between Clemson and Brickyard roads, includes more than 3,000 lights and 100 handcrafted holiday figures, many of which are original designs. Occasional visits from Santa.

Village Farm Road: “Christmas Tree Lane.” Each home on this street, in the WildeWood subdivision in Northeast Richland, features a 6-foot, live Christmas tree with lots of white lights. It’s a favorite viewing tradition for many in the area.

1754 Springfield Ave.: This Woodfield Park home, off Percival and Decker Boulevard, includes 60,000 lights, lots of plastic decorations and a manger.

8321 Winnsboro Road: This Blythewood home in Northeast Richland County shows the message of Christmas – love, hope, peace and joy – using figurines and lights.

Kaminer Station neighborhood: Off Trenholm Road in Forest Acres/Arcadia Lakes area, several homes are decorated. Note home at the end of the street, covered in white lights.

113 Allbene Drive: This Hopkins home in the Lower Richland community includes an elaborate light display.

7304 Teague Road: Ditto for this home, in the Waterbury subdivision off Leesburg Road.

1604 Frye Ave.: In the Fairwold Acres neighborhood, this elderly couple creates an elaborate light show along with angel, reindeer and train figures.

1303 Denny Road: This Denny Terrace neighborhood home features a nice holiday display.

7600 Sunview Drive: This Columbia home includes what one neighbor calls a “beautiful” display.

5204 Pinestraw Road: This Columbia home includes inflatable Santas and snowmen, trains, reindeer, flamingos pulling a sleigh. The roof, front yard and pond behind the house are decorated.

ELGIN

346 Ivo Circle: This home, in the Blaney Hills subdivision off Whitepond Road, looks like “Santa Land.”

BALLENTINE/IRMO/ ST. ANDREWS

1501 Shady Grove Road: This Ballentine area home has displays spanning about 3 acres of frontage road. Includes a Nativity, Santa in sleigh, Santa on a John Deere, carolers and Frosty. Trees throughout the woods are lit.

258 Piney Grove Road: This home in the Whitehall subdivision includes a Nativity, Santa and sleigh with reindeer, Frosty and lots of lights.

200 Aldbury Court: In the Coldstream subdivision near Irmo, this home includes more than 25,000 lights, plus large displays.

324 Rushing Wind Drive: In the Old Friarsgate subdivision in Irmo, this homeowner has been a member of Planet Christmas (www.planetchristmas.com), whose members delight in creating elaborate displays.

1435 Fork Ave.: This Irmo area home features white lights, traditional wooden cutouts painted white, a manger, angels, Santa and sleigh, bears, reindeer, penguins and more.

1613, 1618, 1621, 1622 Van Lingle Ave.: Owners of these homes in the St. Andrews Acres subdivision, behind the Richland County Library annex on Broad River Road, have been decorating together for years. They add new features each holiday season.

319 Kirkstone Road: This Irmo home has more than 16,000 lights, a manger scene, Santa and reindeer, toy soldiers, snowmen and more.

312 Lockner Road: This home, off Piney Grove Road in the Whitehall subdivision, includes Santa, Mickey Mouse and lots of lights.

LEXINGTON AND SURROUNDING COUNTY AREAS

Hope Ferry Road: Several homes in this neighborhood erect spectacular scenes that include painted figures of snowmen, angels, Santa, reindeer and other seasonal treats to create one of the area’s classic displays. Homeowners say the display contains more than 100,000 lights, and hundreds of hand-painted wooden figures .

5326 Sunset Blvd.: This home on U.S. 378 in Lexington, across from Columbia Eye Clinic, was nominated by several readers (see story about the Lever family on today’s front page). The owners have decorated for 25 years. There are themed areas, including sections of snow decorations, cartoon characters, religious items, as well as lots of lights.

8121 Ridge Road: This Batesburg-Leesville home includes an elaborate light display.Caption:

2. The light show at Roy and Janet Blume’s home at 346 Ivo Circle in Elgin.

3. Walter Reed’s yard is decorated a with inflatable figures, with the centerpiece being the Burl Ives snowman from ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.’

4. (zone 6) Hope Ferry Road has been decorated for about 20 years by members of the Keisler, Derrick, Reisinger and Williams families.
