Obituary of White T. Martin

ELGIN – Funeral service for White Thomas Martin, Jr., 74, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Paul Miles will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday, 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to American Kidney Foundation.

Mr. Martin died Sunday, September 27, 2009. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Whiteman Thomas Martin and Ollie Higgins Martin. He retired from the City of Columbia. He enjoyed racing and was an avid NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed working on cars and working with tractors.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Joyce Ross Martin; children, Thomas W. Martin III of Elgin, Joey (Charlene) Martin of Lugoff, Ricky J. Martin of Elgin, and Nancy Marsee (Jesse Marsee) of London, Ky.; grandchildren, Joe Martin and Megan Martin; brothers, Floyd (Jean) Martin of Cassatt, and William (Cheryl) Martin of Irmo; and sister, Doris Martin Elkins Barton of Elgin. He was predeceased by brother, Ted Martin, Sr.; and sisters, Beulah Martin Brazell, Edna Martin Martin, and Louise Martin Brown.
