Twins, Hudson agree to 1-year deal

The Minnesota Twins and second baseman Orlando Hudson have agreed on a one-year contract. The 32-year-old Darlington native is a veteran at the top of the order with a .282 career average and four Gold Glove awards. He played in his second All-Star Game last season, his only year with the Los Angeles Dodgers after four with Toronto and three with Arizona. He forms a new double-play tandem with shortstop J.J. Hardy, who came in a trade from Milwaukee.

Carolina’s Gleason to play for U.S. hockey team

Tim Gleason of the Carolina Hurricanes and Ryan Whitney of the Anaheim Ducks were chosen to replace injured defensemen Paul Martin and Mike Komisarek on the U.S. Olympic hockey team.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL DB awarded sixth year

Auburn defensive back Aairon Savage, who missed the last two seasons with injuries, has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA.

At Greenville, the 15th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team defeated Furman, 7-0, at the Mickel Tennis Center. The Tigers move to 6-0; the Paladins are 0-3.
